University of Tennessee senior pitcher Monica Abbott has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 12-18, the association announced Wednesday.

Abbott led the top-ranked Lady Vols to a 5-0 mark at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas this past weekend to put her six victories away from breaking Courtney Blades’ NCAA Division I wins record.

Abbott posted a perfect 4-0 record in the circle, not allowing a run and hurling three complete-game shutouts. She also tallied 56 strikeouts over 22 innings to put her at the 100-strikeout mark in just eight appearances. Opponents hit just .029 against the hurler as she gave up just no runs and only two hits during her four appearances.

In wins over Florida International and Cal State Northridge, she claimed her 18th and 19th career no-hitters while striking out 12 and 19, respectively. She tallied 17 K’s in a one-hit shutout of Illinois.
