LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A perfect 4-0 following its participation in the season-opening Queen of the Mountain Tournament, Amador Valley (Calif.) became the first team to sit atop the 2013 USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll on Thursday when the Association released its initial edition of the rankings.
Coming in at No. 2 in the opening listing was Northern (Md.), off to a 1-0 start to the season after finishing last year by winning the Maryland 3A state championship. Following in third is Flower Mound Marcus (Texas) with an impressive 14-0 record, while Bishop O’Connell (Va.) and John Curtis (La.) round out the top five with 2-0 and 15-0 marks, respectively.
California led this week’s rankings with six “Golden State” programs listed, followed by Texas (four) and Arizona (three). With two schools included in the latest rankings, Florida is the only other state placing multiple teams in the poll.
The USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll is compiled by state representatives from across the country. Records for this week’s poll include all games played through March 27, 2013.
