Central College (Iowa) freshman catcher Kelly Harris has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 25-May 1, the association announced Wednesday.
Harris hit .700 for the Dutch in six games. Her weekly totals included 14-for-20 at the plate with seven runs, five RBIs, two triples and a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases.
In a win over Buena Vista, she went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of triples, an RBI and a stolen base. She followed that game up with a 2-for-3 outing in the second game of the twin bill.
She also keyed George Wares’ squad to a doubleheader sweep of Bethel, going 4-for-6 in the twin bill with four runs, an RBI and three stolen bases. She closed the week by going 5-for-7 in a sweep of Cornell. She scored two runs and drove in three as the Dutch out-scored Cornell 22-1 over the pair of games.
Not only did she swing a hot bat for the week, but she also posted a solid six games behind the plate, throwing out seven base stealers in 10 attempts and picking off four more.
Harris ranks third on the team this season with a .346 batting average. Currently 37-for-107 for the year, she has two doubles, a team-best three triples, two home runs and 26 RBIs that are the second-most on the squad.
