STARKVILLE, Miss. – Estrella Foothills (Ariz.) unseated previous No. 1 Norco to climb to the top of the latest USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll, that was released by the Association on Thursday. The Wolves moved into the pole position by winning two games last week and pushing their season record to 25-0.
Coming in at second this week was Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.), which moved up two spots in the rankings with a record of 23-1. Alvin (Texas) also moved up one spot this week to third, while previous No. 1 Norco (Calif.) dropped three spots to No. 4. The Woodlands (Texas) rounded out this week’s top five by moving up from seventh to fifth.
Four teams made their 2012 debuts in the poll this week, with Pacifica (Calif.) leading the way at No. 11. Also moving into the rankings for the first time in 2012 were Topsail (N.C.), Keystone (Ohio) and Beech (Tenn.) at 23rd, 24th and 25th, respectively.
With the addition of four new teams to the rankings this week, four teams were forced out of the poll in the latest edition. Previous No. 21 Hillcrest (Ala.), No. 22 Bingham (Utah), No. 24 Poland Seminary (Ohio), No. 25 Newton Co. (Miss.) all fell out of the rankings for the first time this season.
