Leigh Ann LaFave threw a two-hit shutout and Anne Westerman drove in the deciding run as Alma eliminated Williams with a 1-0 win Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Raleigh, N.C.

"We played much better than yesterday," Alma head coach Denny Griffin said. "We got good pitching from Leigh Ann and we hit the ball well today."

LaFave went the distance, striking out nine in the process, as the Scots moved to 33-9 on the year and advanced to play the loser of Saturday night's game between Chapman and Ithaca.

"My job is to just throw the ball and let the defense take care of it," LaFave said. "We were working inside and outside pretty well."

"She had good movement. She had a nice rise ball and some pitches that moved out well," Williams second baseman Alana Frost said. "We were struggling a lot with her pitches."

Her teammates got the only run she would need in the second inning as Megan Colligan led off with a walk and pinch-runner Julie Lee advanced to second on Shannon Harrington's single to left field. Emily Blahnik responded with another single, and Westerman put the run on the board with her single that scored Harrington.

Williams' Clara Hard suffered the loss despite only giving up a lone run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Williams ends its season with a 28-14 mark.
