Texas pitcher Cat Osterman was among the Longhorn athletes featured on the cover of this week's issue ofSports Illustrated. The cover story featured the ranking of America's Best Sports Colleges, based on criteria including, but not limited to, national championships and top 25 rankings (in 2001-2002), graduation rates, intramural and club sports offered, as well as team and fan traditions. The survey placed much emphasis on colleges' performances in football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball.

Texas edged out Stanford for the No. 1 ranking. Last spring's Women's College World Series champion California was ranked No. 34. Two of last year's WCWS participants finished in the top 10: Oklahoma (No. 3) and Michigan (No. 10). UC Davis was named the Best Sports College in Division II.
