The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from nine NFCA regions. A total of 241 players from 117 different teams comprised the first and second regional teams.
Chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. These will be announced on ESPN during the Women’s College World Series.
Top-ranked Michigan, which enters this week’s regional tournament as the nation’s No. 1 overall seed, placed five players on the All-Great Lakes Region first team. The Wolverines were led by pitcher Jennie Ritter, Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year. Other players on the first team were Samantha Findlay, 1B; Tiffany Haas, 2B; Jessica Merchant, SS, and Alessandra Giampaolo, OF. DP Nicole Motycka was chosen for the second team.
No. 2 California, the top seed in the Fresno, Calif., regional also placed five players on all-region squads. The Bears had two first team honorees in third baseman Vicky Galindo and outfielder Kaleo Eldredge.
No. 3 Arizona had four players selected, including first team selections pitcher Alicia Hollowell, shortstop Kristie Fox and outfielder Caitlin Lowe. Fox leads the nation in RBIs per game, with a total of 63 and average of 1.29 per game. Lowe is second in the nation in batting average with .518.
