LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For her impressive efforts in helping No. 13 Louisville (16-3) to a 4-1 record this past weekend at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., including a victory over then-No. 11 LSU, Cardinal junior second baseman Katie Keller has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for March 5.

U of L’s lead-off hitter batted .667 overall (8-for-12) with three doubles, an impressive seven walks and a pair of RBIs, while posting an .800 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week managed to reach base successfully 15 of the 19 times she stepped to the plate via hit or walk and tallied at least one run in four of the week’s five match-ups.  After opening the event by going 1-for-3 with a double during Louisville’s razor-thin, 2-0 loss to then-No. 5 Texas, Keller eventually posted identical 2-for-2 efforts with two runs scored and a RBI during victories over both No. 11 LSU (6-2) and Temple (8-0) and was 2-for-2 with a pair of two-baggers in a 6-3 win over Georgia Tech.

Benefited by her weekend’s strong performance, Keller currently guides the Cardinals with a .450 batting average and has now tallied a team-leading 22 runs.

Next up for No. 13 Louisville is its home-hosted Red & Black Tournament slated for March 8-10 at Ulmer Stadium. During the event, U of L is slated to face No. 14 Michigan, Miami (OH), Austin Peay and Illinois State.
