NFCASTARKVILLE, Miss. – Top-ranked Bellevue took home three selections to lead all schools as the NFCA announced its 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NWAACC All-American team on Friday. In total, 12 student-athletes from seven different institutions earned the distinguished honor this season.

Wenatchee Valley, Mt. Hood and Walla Walla followed closely behind Bellevue by each placing two players on this year’s team.

Bellevue infielder Tobey Varney was one of four players on this year’s team to be named to the All-American team for the second time in as many years. Varney hit .475 for the Bulldogs this season while leading the league in RBIs with 60 and home runs with 16. Also earning honors this year from Bellevue were infielder Kristen Allen and outfielder Rogin Hardy. Allen turned in the second-highest batting average in all of NWAACC at .575 while scoring 47 runs, while teammate Hardin led the league with a .617 average and an astronomical .661 on-base percentage.

Walla Walla outfielder Alexis Bobadilla also became a two-time All-American this year, thanks in large part to her 11 home runs and 50 RBIs. Fellow Warrior Dara Kosanke was also named to this season’s team after performing well on both sides of the plate. Kosanke hit .533 at the dish this year, while going 20-5 in the circle with 144 strikeouts.

Mt. Hood garnered two-All-Americans this season in the form of infielder Mai Galusha and outfielder Jessica Guy. Galusha hit .413 this season with 25 RBIs, while Guy batted .455 and turned in a .500 on-base percentage.

Finishing out teams with multiple selections in 2011 was Wenatchee Valley and its battery of pitcher Amy Greenough and catcher Cassi Ellis. Greenough finished the regular-season with a 1.18 ERA over 136.1 innings, while Ellis scored 48 times and tallied 17 extra base hits.

Two other players earned the second All-American accolade of their career this year, pitcher Ashley Suter of Clackamas and infielder Tara Talbott of Treasure Valley. Suter was 11-3 on the year with a 1.65 ERA and 136 strikeouts, while Talbott hit .410 for the Chukars and drove in 45 runs.

Rounding out the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American team was Clark’s Laura Luther. Luther, the lone Penguin on this year’s team, batted an even .500 and blasted 12 home runs.

Six of the seven teams to earn All-American honors this season will now compete in this weekend’s NWAACC Championship Tournament, which runs through Monday at East Delta Park in Portland, Ore.
