STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the second straight year, the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll has been chosen as the official poll of the Capital One Cup. The Capital One Cup uses the final official coaches poll in 39 sports to honor one men’s and one women’s NCAA Division I athletic program for their cumulative on-field performance each year.
“We are thrilled to once again partner with the Capital One Cup to recognize the best in Division I athletics,” said NFCA Executive Director Lacy Lee Baker. “Not only is the Capital One Cup committed to honoring on-field excellence, but the program are also committed to helping fund the education of student-athletes.”
For the second year, winners of the Capital One Cup will receive the prestigious Capital One Cup trophy and will also receive a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships.
Not only does the Capital One Cup recognize the best in Division I athletics, but its principles are guided by a board of some of the most successful broadcasters and student-athletes in NCAA Division I history. Board members include Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American and Arizona player Jenny Finch, ESPN’s Reece Davis, former Ohio State basketball player Clark Kellogg, Heisman Trophy winner and Boston College player Doug Flutie, former USC basketball player Lisa Leslie, former Santa Clara soccer player Brandy Chastain and former Michigan baseball player Barry Larkin.
