Northern Kentucky pitcher Krystal Lewallen has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week of April 25-May 1, it was announced by the association today.
Lewallen, who has been key in Northern Kentucky's impressive 46-0 season, tossed three complete games last week, giving up just one run while striking out 37.
In a 2-1 win over Ashland, Lewallen took a perfect game to the seventh inning, and gave up just two hits, and struck out 12. She followed that up with a pair of three-hit shutouts over Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis.
Against UMSL, Lewallen struck out 16 batters in a 1-0 victory that gave the Norse a perfect regular season.
"Krystal has been an integral part of the team's success and our current
record," said NKU head coach Kathy Stewart. "I am glad that she could receive this honor."
NKU enters this weekend's GLVC tournament just one win shy of matching Arizona's all-collegiate record of 47 consecutive wins.
