Junior DP/C Tara Mickelson of Metro State and senior pitcher Jen O’Hara from Missouri S&T have been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the NFCA announced on Wednesday. Both players have been honored for their performances during the week ending April 25, 2009. 

Tara Mickelson, a junior DP/C from Metro State, added to her single-season home run record while helping Metro State win the regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship. For the week, she hit .600, going 12-for-20 with 12 RBI, 11 runs scored, 13 putouts and an assist. 

The Wheat Ridge, Colo., native now has 22 home runs on the season, ranking second on the NCAA’s Division II list. Mickelson had a run scored and an RBI in the 5-1 win in game one against Chadron on Saturday. In the second game of the doubleheader, she drilled two home runs, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. On Sunday, Mickelson hit a game-tying solo home run in the first game against Chadron. In the final game of the four-game series, Metro State clinched the RMAC regular season championship with Mickelson contributing a three-run home run. 

Jen O’Hara appeared in seven contests last week with five starts, going 4-1 with a save. She pitched 38.1 innings on the week, giving up one unearned run in those seven appearances. 

On Tuesday in the second game at Quincy she tossed the first of her four complete game shutouts holding the Hawks to just three hits in S&T's 3-0 win. She recorded three strikeouts against a walk in the contest. In the first game against Southwest Baptist on Wednesday, O’Hara picked up a save, pitching the final inning of a 4-1 win. In the second game on Wednesday against the Bearcats she suffered her only loss of the week giving up the unearned run in a 1-0 defeat. In that game she gave up eight hits while walking two and striking out three. 

On Saturday, the Chardon, Ohio, native came on relief in the first game against Drury holding the Panthers hitless for the final 2.1 innings. With S&T's season on the line she tossed a complete game six hit shutout against the Panthers in game two as the Lady Miners won 2-0, striking out seven. On Sunday against Rockhurst she tossed back-to-back complete game three-hit shutouts as S&T won 4-0 and 2-0 to secure the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference tournament. In those games on 

On the week O'Hara finished the week giving up 23 hits while striking out 20 and walking only six. She also became Missouri S&T's all-time leader in career wins with her first game win over Rockhurst on Sunday.
