An invitee to the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National
Team Selection Camp next month in Chula Vista, Calif., Chavanne has wrecked havoc on Tennessee opponents all season, most recently Radford, Mississippi State and Arkansas. The sophomore posted at least two hits in each of her last six games, hitting .778 (14-for-18) over that seven-game stretch.
In the last two games of the month against Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe Arkansas, Chavanne reached safely in seven consecutive plate appearances. She had three doubles, a single and three walks during that stretch. Earlier in the month she hit .583 (7-of-12) during Tennessee’s high-profile sweep of then-No. 19 LSU, April 15-17.
Chavanne had 10 multi-hit games in April. For the month, she hit at a .485 clip (32-of-66) with 19 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and went 9-for-9 on steals and is currently on a career-long 14-game hitting streak. Chavanne has successfully reached base with a hit in 17 of her 19 games in April.
In addition to being selected as the nominee for the USOC’s April 2011 Female Athlete of the Month award, Chavanne was recognized as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I National Player of the Week and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Week for Week 12 of the season, April 25-May 1.
