LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After taking the Division III Championship last week in Eau Claire, Wis., Tufts University has earned the top spot as the No. 1 team in the final NFCA Division III Top 25 poll of the year.

Tufts finished the season as national champions with a 46-3 record, moving up six spots while being unanimously selected as the top overall team in the nation.

Coming in at No. 2 is Salisbury University (42-4). The Sea Gulls held the No. 1 spot for a few weeks and into post-season play, but came up short in their title hopes to land at No. 2 in the final poll.

University of Texas, Tyler (47-6) moved up two spots to land at No. 3. The Patriots fell to Salisbury (1-0) and Tufts (6-0) during the NCAA finals, but did defeat Central College (5-4) and Luther (4-1).

Montclair State (46-5) fell one spot to land at No. 4. The Red Hawks defeated Central College (4-1) in NCAAs but fell to Tufts (3-1) and Salisbury (3-1) to get bounced from the tournament. 

SUNY Cortland (35-17) made the largest jump in the final poll, moving from receiving votes in the final regular season poll to No. 5. The Red Dragons turned in three wins during the Division III tournament, defeating Salisbury (2-1), Luther (9-1) and Salisbury (7-6). The team did, however, fall to Tufts twice (6-0, 6-5) to have their title hopes dashed.

Luther (33-11), Central (32-10), Trine (38-5), East Texas Baptist University (37-12) and St. Thomas (41-7) landed at Nos. 6 through No. 10 respectively.  Luther rose 12 positions to land at No. 6, and Central rose nine places. 

Virginia Wesleyan (41-8) jumped four spots to No. 11 in the final poll of the 2013 season, followed by Rowan (41-9) at No. 12. After being unranked in the final regular season poll, Anderson (40-15) exploded through the regional rounds and into the NCAA tournament to finish the season ranked No. 13. Emory University plummeted 10 slots to land at No. 14, while Piedmont rose from unranked to No. 15 to close out the year.

Redlands (36-12) and Piedmont (34-10) both earned 80 points from voters, tying for the No. 15 spot.

Linfield landed at No. 17 after finishing the season 36-8, falling 11 places from the No. 6 spot previously. Claremont (33-13), Augustana (32-14) and Christopher Newport (34-13) rounded out the top 20 respectively. 

Coming in at No. 21 was Lebanon Valley (36-7-1), followed by Coe College (34-8) at No. 22. Carthage (33-12) and Susquehanna (40-9) filled in at No. 23 and No. 24, while Babson College (34-14) closed out the year at No. 25. 

Other team’s receiving votes were: North Central College (19), UW Whitewater (10), Illinois Wesleyan (7), Capital (6), Allegany (3), Fontbonne (3) and Lynchburg (3).

Falling from the poll were: UW Whitewater (No. 11), Illinois Wesleyan (No. 21), Fontbonne (No. 23), Lynchburg (No. 19) and UW Eau Claire (No. 24).
