STARKVILLE, Miss. – Valdosta State became the fourth team in four weeks to sit atop the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll on Wednesday when the Association released its latest edition of the rankings.
The Blazers (25-2) received 11 of 16 first place votes this week to take over the poll’s top spot for the first time since Feb. 23, 2011. Indianapolis (26-1) jumped up two spots to second, while Winona State (23-2) also moved up two places to third. Barry (28-5) went from sixth to fourth in the latest poll, while previous No. 1 Angelo State (26-5) fell to fifth. Indianapolis and Angelo State each received two first-place votes this week, while ninth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills (31-6) received one.
After just one week in the rankings, previous No. 25 California (Pa.) was the only team to fall out of the rankings this week. After sweeping a doubleheader with then ninth-ranked Missouri Western State (25-6), Emporia State (19-7) joined the poll for the first time this season at No. 25.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
