STARKVILLE, Miss. – Valdosta State freshman Morgan Johnson and Wayne St. (NE) junior Katie Goetzinger have been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played between April 12 and April 18, 2010. 

Johnson hit .733 last week by going 11-for-15 with four runs, eight RBIs, two doubles, three home runs and three walks. She ended the six-game stretch with a 1.467 slugging percentage and a .737 on-base percentage. 

The native of Macon, Ga., hit a sixth-inning two-run bomb to give Valdosta the lead for good in a 7-4 win over No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville in a key Gulf South contest for both teams. In the second game of the doubleheader, Johnson wet 2-for-2 to help give the Blazers the sweep. 

No. 2 Valdosta State went 6-0 last week and is currently 38-5 on the year. The Blazers have already clinched one of four East Division berths in next weekend’s GSC tournament and sit just one game behind first place Alabama-Huntsville with a 21-4 record in league play. 

Goetzinger gave Wayne State (NE ) four wins last week and allowed just 13 hits, one run and no walks over 25.0 innings of work. She posted two 10-plus strikeout performances over four games to finish the week with 40 total strikeouts. 

The Harlan, Iowa, native threw three complete games on the week and held her opponents scoreless in two of those contests, all while limiting them a tiny .151 batting average. 

The Wildcats, who returned to the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll this week at No. 24, finished last week with a 6-0 record are currently 27-9 on the year. Wayne State is currently 12-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is tied for second place with Concordia-St. Paul.

Casey Hanes of Wayne St. (MI) went 4-0 on the week while fanning 40 batters… Nebraska-Omaha’s Alli Hukill hit safely in each of her seven games last week and hit a home run in each game of her conference crossover… Angelo State’s Alix Dean had a 4-for-4 performance against St. Mary’s (TX) and finished the week with a .714 batting average… Kara Piasecki of Dominican (NY) hit .727 on the week with a double and two home runs…
