LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four more wins apiece kept Nebraska’s Papillion-LaVista and Georgia’s East Coweta in the top two spots, but there was a lot of jostling underneath them in the 2020 NFCA Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Reigning state champion Papillion-LaVista (18-0) continued to add to its state record with a quartet of lopsided wins, including an 8-0 shutout of No. 25 Omaha Marian on Saturday. The Monarchs have now won 54 straight games, and outscored their opponents 38-1 over the last week alone.

Meanwhile, East Coweta (14-0) kept pace, as Jaliyah Holmes tossed her third no-hitter of the season in a 2-0 victory over county rival Northgate on Monday. Last Thursday, the Indians routed then-No. 17 Newnan, 12-0.

The same teams comprise the top five this week, but Oklahoma schools Edmond Memorial (21-1) and Southmoore (18-1) swapped the third and fourth positions, with Iowa 5A state champion Kennedy (26-1) remaining at No. 5.

Elsewhere, a second Missouri school and two new Georgia teams joined the Top 25.

New No. 15 Troy-Buchanan (8-2) spent the first five weeks of 2019 ranked and makes its return, while the addition of No. 19 Locust Grove (14-3-1) and No. 20 Harrison (15-2) give Georgia a state-best six squads on the list.

State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to compile the NFCA Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
