LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Colorado Mesa’s Iliana Mendoza and Azusa Pacific’s Katie Korstrom were named 2023 Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The duo was recognized for their outstanding performances March 12-19.

Mendoza keyed the Mavericks to a four-game sweep of University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, extending their winning streak to 12 games. The junior outfielder was hard to get out as she hit .875 (7-for-8) and reached base at a .917 clip. She drove homered and drove in three runs in the game three win and scored twice in game two. 

Korstrom was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and struck out 16 to just three walks in 14.2 innings of work. She also helped herself at the plate, batting .615 with three doubles, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. Korstrom twirled a two-hit shutout with nine punchouts and a walk against Academy of Art. She also added seven more punchouts in four innings of relief against the Urban Knights. She homered and drove in three runs in the game one win over Academy of Art.

The Division II weekly awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Committee.
