LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Ohio Dominican’s Kelly Mix and Minnesota State’s Mackenzie Ward were named 2019 Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for games played March 18-24. 

Mix played a significant role in her squad’s 8-0 week in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The senior from Baltimore, Ohio hit .524 (11-for-21) with three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI. She scored eight times, slugged 1.095, recorded a .615 on-base percentage and did not strikeout in 27 plate appearances. Mix registered five multi-RBI and four-multi-hit contests which included a 3-for-4 performance with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in game two at Tiffin. The G-Mac Player of the Week homered and drove in three runs against Cedarville and Hillsdale, respectively. Mix also left the yard in game two versus Findlay.

Ward, a native of Clive, Iowa, was lights out in the circle, tossing a no-hitter and helping the Mavericks pick up three wins at the Emporia State Softball Classic. She finished the weekend, 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a save. The sophomore righty fanned 24, held her opponents to a .040 batting average (two hits) in 16 innings of work. She no-hit Pittsburg State striking out a career high 14 batters in a 2-0 victory. In her first start, Mix twirled a one-hit shutout against Northeastern State, taking a no-hit bid into the sixth inning. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week capped the weekend off with a two-inning save in a 2-1 win over the host Hornets.
